The merging of latest service packs to our XP Disc by the process is called Slipstreaming.

 What does slipstreaming means ?

1.       Slipstreaming is the technique for combining an installation CD like WindowsXp, with the latest Service Pack.
2.       Slipstreaming is the IT Departments secret weapon.
Why slipstreaming ???
1.      Unfortunately, updating to any service pack is a time consuming process, especially if you have more than one PC to upgrade.
2.      As usual, Microsoft has published the service pack in the form of a single downloadable file for IT professionals
3.      who need to apply it to multiple machines over a network.
4.      The idea of installing Windows XP first then painstakingly applying its latest service pack to each machine seems... unnecessary.
5.      For This Microsoft has included the ability to 'slipstream' the installation process.
6.       By Slipstreaming process, we can create New Bootable XP CD with latest Service Pack included.
7.       Which contains all the original operating system files
8.       For slipstreaming the service Pack you have to Download latest service pack from www.microsoft.com or www.thehotfix.net
Let’s slipstream our Downloaded Service Pack
·         First of all Copy your XP CD to “ c:\XPCD “
·         Click Start, and select Run.

·         Browse your downloaded Service Pack 3 (“ suppose we have downloaded SP3, I will call it XPSP3.exe “)

After browsing it, give a space and type

   " c:\XPSP3.exe -s:c:\XPCD "

 ·        Click OK.

After extracting another box will display, showing updating your XP files

^^ I have tried it in past when I used XP. Its simply slipstream SP into Windows setup. nLite also uses the same method.

You'll need XP Boot image to create bootable CD. Best method would be using nLite.

Yep. You can make XP bootable CD using Nero but you'll need the boot image which can be extracted from another bootable CD using CD Image creator software or you can download from net. I don't have any link. The most easiest way would be using nLite which does it automatically.

Download this boot sector: www.MegaShare.com/352262

Now open nero and choose the type as Bootable CD. In the boot settings set these options:

Point the boot image file to the xpboot.bin,

Enable the Expert settings; set Emulation to No emulation; Ensure that Load segment sector is 07c0; Set Number of loaded sectors to 4.

Burn the CD maintaining the original file and oflder structure. I hafn't noticed any problem when the format is set to allow iso9660 + Joliet (long file name supporT). Give any label to the cd and you haf your very own sp3 bootalbe cd. Add things like drivers etc. to the free space :)

Thanks for the welcome! :) Been loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong since I've been here!

One imp. thing: Plz ensure that the Sectors is set to 4, otherwise the CD will plain refuse to boot!!!!! Secondly if you wanna make some extra space then you may delete the folder: support, valueadd in the root; and if you don't use east asian lingos (korean, jap and whatnot) and are not gonna use the cd for upgrading from win 95/98/NT then you can delete these folders under i386: winntmig, win9xmig and Lang. That will free about 130MB on the CD to give you more space for your customized content.

Tho nLite does things like these automatically being a power user I prefer things the manual way :)

Thanks all of u

You can also make your bootable XP Disc by using CDimage tools.

·        CDIMAGE GUI is just a frontend for the original CDIMAGE commandline tool. The GUI includes it's own CDIMAGE, so you wont>>

·        need to download it. However if you wish to download just the commandline version, it's listed below.>>

·        The CDIMAGE GUI file you'll be downloading is preconfigured with the recommended switches, so all you'll have to change is the>>

·        directories, volume label, and boot sector path.>>

·        Download: CDIMAGE GUI | CDIMAGE.EXE | boot.img>>

Yes, If you want to slipstream. Better do slipstreaming on a XP machine than on a Vista machine.

But if you want to update your PC with SP3, then XP SP1 or XP Sp2 is required.
