I have tried more than a couple of visual styles on my Vista (with SP1) but with no success. No change reflected except for wallpapers (if any attached).
What I did:
- Made Aero enabled.
- Replaced the three original DLL's from the folder System32 with modified ones: shsvcs.dll, themeui.dll & uxtheme.dll.
These are for SP1, not ones for Vista with no SP.
Replacement was successful with no doubt because I did not overwtite them, but did change the access control of the original files, rename them to xxx.dll.old and then place the modified files into the folder.
- Copied the set of files of a visual style into C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes.
Then it looks like:
C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\My_Visual_Style\
C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\My_Visual_Style\My_Visual_Style.msstyles
C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\My_Visual_Style\en-US\
C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\My_Visual_Style\en-US\My_Visual_Style.msstyles.mui
C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\My_Visual_Style\Shell\
C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\My_Visual_Style\Shell\NormalColor\
C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\My_Visual_Style\Shell\NormalColor\shellstyle.dll
C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\My_Visual_Style\Shell\NormalColor\en-US\
C:\WINDOWS\Resources\Themes\My_Visual_Style\Shell\NormalColor\en-US\shellstyle.dll.mui
- Doubleclicked My_Visual_Dtyle.msstyles.
A window popped up for changing the theme. I could find an entry for My_Visual_Style in the list box, and however what appeared in the preview box or my desktop was only something just like the default vista style with Aero disabled when I selected and applied it.
What is wrong??
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
